Indian Coast Guard Saves 75-Year-Old in Midnight Medical Evacuation From Lakshadweep

Quick Response Saves 75-Year-Old Patient

The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) carried out a midnight medical evacuation from Lakshadweep to Kochi, saving the life of a 75-year-old patient who needed urgent treatment.

Officials confirmed that the operation began late Saturday night and concluded early Sunday morning. As a result, the patient received timely medical care.

Emergency Call Triggers Immediate Action

Authorities received an urgent medical request after flight operations had closed at Agatti airfield. However, the Coast Guard activated its distress and humanitarian response system without delay.

The patient was diagnosed with acute subdural hematoma and required oxygen support. Therefore, doctors advised immediate evacuation.

Dornier Aircraft Deployed at Night

To manage the emergency, the Coast Guard launched a Dornier aircraft from the ICG Air Enclave at Kochi Airport at 10 pm.

The aircraft landed at Agatti Island at 11:20 pm. Meanwhile, the medical team prepared the patient for transfer.

The crew boarded the patient, a doctor, and the spouse quickly. As a result, the aircraft departed within 25 minutes.

Safe Landing in Kochi

The aircraft reached Kochi Airport at 1:10 am on Sunday. After landing, officials shifted the patient immediately to Amrita Hospital.

Doctors there are now providing advanced medical treatment and critical care support.

Operation Completed Despite Difficult Conditions

The Coast Guard completed the entire mission within three hours of receiving the request. Notably, the operation took place after runway closure and in complete darkness.

Despite these challenges, the pilots showed excellent skill and precision. Therefore, the mission concluded safely.

Night-Landing SOPs Prove Crucial

According to officials, night-landing standard operating procedures at Agatti airfield played a key role. These protocols continue to support life-saving evacuations from remote islands.

Additionally, this mission marked the seventh successful medical evacuation using a Dornier aircraft by the Indian Coast Guard this year.

Indian Coast Guard’s Role as First Responder

Through swift action and careful planning, the Indian Coast Guard once again proved its role as a reliable emergency responder in island and maritime regions.

As a result, residents of Lakshadweep continue to receive critical medical support during emergencies.
